ABS is easy to cut, drill, mill and sand. It can melt if tools run hot, so use sharp cutters and moderate speeds. For bonding, solvent cement or suitable adhesives give strong joints. Phenolic is harder on tools: use carbide cutters, support the sheet fully when sawing, and clamp firmly to prevent edge chipping. Always use dust extraction and a mask, because phenolic dust is irritating.
Store both materials flat in a dry area. Phenolic laminates can absorb a little moisture, which slightly affects electrical performance, so keep stock indoors and dry it before critical electrical use if it has been stored in damp conditions.
If neither material fits, other options include nylon and POM for general wear parts, HDPE and polypropylene for chemical tanks, and glass-reinforced epoxy laminates for higher-strength insulation.
