What to Look for in an Outrigg

Sizing outrigger pads for SANY cranes correctly protects both the ground and the crane’s outrigger float, and it starts with knowing the specific reaction force for your lift rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all pad. SANY is one of the most widely operated crane brands on Saudi construction and industrial sites, with a
wide mobile crane range from smaller truck cranes up to large all-terrain and crawler units used on heavy
lift and infrastructure work. You can cross-check current model specifications directly against SANY’s official technical documentation if your load chart is out of date.
• General construction and building projects across all major cities
• Infrastructure and precast erection work
• Larger crawler models on heavy industrial and petrochemical lifts
The same SANY crane model can need two different pad sizes on the same day, depending on whether it’s set up on compacted asphalt, reclaimed sabkha ground, or loose desert sand. Softer ground lowers the allowable bearing pressure, which pushes the required pad footprint up even though the crane’s outrigger reaction force hasn’t changed. It’s a mistake to size the pad once for a crane model and reuse that figure on every site without rechecking ground conditions.
SANY’s larger crawler cranes apply sustained, high point loads through the track pads and outrigger floats, so UHMWPE is generally the better material choice over general-purpose rubber mats for these classes — it holds up to repeated heavy loading without the surface wear that shortens the service life of a softer mat.
SANY’s mobile crane range spans a wide tonnage class, so outrigger reaction forces vary significantly between models and even between load charts for the same model at different boom configurations. The reaction force at maximum boom length and full counterweight is usually well above the reaction force for the same crane picking a light load close in, so sizing a pad off a single “typical” figure for a model can leave you under-sized on the heavier picks.
Always check the specific load Crane Outrigger Pad Size chart for your unit and configuration rather than assuming a fixed pad size across the SANY range — Diode can size a pad against your load chart directly if you send it over.
Beyond the SANY-specific reaction figures, it’s worth cross-checking against the complete Saferig outrigger pad load capacity chart, which lists the tested product codes and ratings for every standard pad size we stock.
SANY’s larger crawler cranes sometimes need a pad footprint outside our standard size range, particularly on petrochemical sites with tight outrigger spacing. In that case our custom size outrigger pads service can fabricate a pad to the exact dimensions your rigging plan calls for.
Most EPC contractors and lift planners in the Kingdom require a Material Test Certificate on file before a pad goes into service, and Aramco or SABIC-affiliated sites in particular tend to check this documentation before allowing a lift to proceed. See our guide on outrigger pad MTC certificates for what that documentation should include and how to request one from us before you order.
Before you place an order, have the crane model, the maximum outrigger load from the load chart, and the typical ground conditions on your job sites ready. This lets us confirm the correct size and thickness of outrigger pads for SANY cranes in a single call rather than several rounds of back and forth. We keep common sizes in stock in Dammam for fast dispatch across the Eastern Province, and we can also produce custom sizes on request for cranes with wider or narrower outrigger footprints.
