Ready-Cut Gaskets: How to Order the Right Size and Material

Published date 30 October, 2026 | Author Admin
Ready cut gaskets in rubber, non-asbestos, PTFE and cork

Short answer: Ready-cut gaskets are gaskets already
cut to standard flange sizes, so you can fit them without cutting sheet
yourself. To order, give the flange standard (such as ANSI or DIN),
nominal pipe size, pressure class, gasket type (ring or full face) and
the material. This saves time during shutdowns and gives a cleaner seal
than hand-cut gaskets.

Why ready-cut gaskets help

Cutting gaskets on site is slow and the result can be uneven. A badly
cut gasket can leak or fail early. Ready-cut gaskets are produced with
accurate dimensions and clean edges, reducing leakage, downtime and
waste. Maintenance teams often keep common sizes in stock for urgent
repairs.

Ring and full-face gaskets

  • Ring gasket (inside bolt circle): fits within the
bolt holes on a raised-face flange.
  • Full-face gasket: covers the whole flange face and
has bolt holes. Used on flat-face flanges.

Specify which type you need, because they are not
interchangeable.

Information needed

  1. Flange standard: ANSI/ASME, DIN/EN, BS or
    other.
  2. Nominal size: the pipe size.
  3. Pressure class: for example class or PN
    rating.
  4. Facing: raised face or flat face.
  5. Thickness.
  6. Material: CNAF, rubber, PTFE, graphite or
    another.
  7. Quantity.

Choosing the material

The material depends on the fluid, temperature and pressure. For
water and oil, CNAF or rubber is common. For aggressive chemicals, PTFE
or envelope types. For high temperature, graphite. See guides on
non-asbestos gasket sheet, PTFE gaskets and graphite gaskets.

Non-standard sizes

If the flange is non-standard or the gasket must fit a special cover,
send a drawing or a template. Custom gaskets can be cut from sheet to
the drawing, including shaped covers and inspection plates.

Installation reminders

Check that the gasket matches the flange. Use a new gasket each time.
Tighten bolts in a cross pattern in stages to the specified torque.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ordering by pipe size only, without the pressure class
  • confusing ring and full-face gaskets
  • using the wrong thickness for the flange condition
  • reusing gaskets
  • ordering without checking material compatibility

Questions to ask your
supplier

Which standards and sizes are in stock? What are lead times for
custom shapes? Is material documentation available? Can the gaskets be
supplied in a mixed order of sizes?

Building a gasket stock list

A maintenance store usually needs the most common flange sizes in the
most common pressure classes, in one or two materials such as CNAF and
PTFE. Review which flanges you open most often, and list the sizes,
class, material and thickness for each. A stock list that matches your
plant reduces emergency orders. Send the list and we will quote the full
set.

Quality checks on receipt

On delivery, check the inside and outside diameters, bolt hole
positions and thickness against your order, and look for cracks, creases
and damaged edges. Keep the documents with the batch records.

Custom and special shapes

Besides standard flanges, gaskets are often needed for pump covers,
inspection hatches, heat exchanger heads and machine housings. Send the
old gasket, a template or a drawing with hole positions. Mention the
bolt size so holes are cut to the right diameter, and the sealing width
needed.

FAQ

What are ready-cut gaskets? Gaskets cut to standard
flange sizes, ready to fit.

Can I get custom shapes? Yes, from a drawing or
template.

What is the difference between ring and full-face?
Ring fits inside the bolts; full-face covers the entire flange.

Which material should I choose? It depends on the
fluid, temperature and pressure.
