Reading the table: load bearing vs. ultimate capacity

“Load bearing capacity” is the rated safe working load for that pad size — this is the figure to size against for normal operations. “Ultimate load capacity” reflects the pad’s tested failure threshold, included for reference and engineering review, not as a working limit. Always size against load bearing capacity, with your own project safety margin on top where required.

Material properties — why UHMWPE performs the way it does

Property Test Method Value
Density ISO 1183-1 < 0.96 g/cm³
Molecular Weight 0.5 – 5 Mio. g/mol
Water Absorption (23°C) ISO 62 < 0.01 %
Elongation at Break (23°C) ISO 527-2 > 500 %
Shore Hardness D ISO 868 64
Notched Impact Strength ISO 868 No Break
Wear Resistance (Sand-Slurry) ISO 15527 > 350 %
Friction Coefficient (μ) 0.2
Melting Temperature ISO 11357 130 – 135 °C

Two figures worth highlighting: the wear resistance rating of >350% (ISO 15527 sand-slurry test) is a strong number for pads used repeatedly on abrasive desert sites, and the “no break” notched impact strength result means the material resists cracking under sudden shock loading rather than failing brittle.

Reading the outrigger pad load capacity chart correctly

Every row in this outrigger pad load capacity chart lists two figures: Load Bearing Capacity and Ultimate Load Capacity. Load Bearing Capacity is the rated working load for normal, repeated use. Ultimate Load Capacity is the tested failure threshold, and it should never be treated as a safe working figure — it exists so engineers can confirm a margin of safety, not so a pad can be routinely loaded that close to failure.

Matching the chart to your crane’s outrigger reaction

Your crane’s load chart or rigging plan gives the maximum outrigger reaction force for the pick you’re planning. Compare that figure against the Load Bearing Capacity column, not the Ultimate figure, and always round up to the next pad size if the reaction force sits close to a boundary between two sizes. On soft or uneven ground, cross-check against our outrigger pad size calculator as well, since ground bearing pressure can push you toward a larger pad than the chart alone suggests.

Why Diode Trading EST publishes the full chart

We publish the complete outrigger pad load capacity chart, rather than a simplified version, because crane operators and lift planners in Saudi Arabia need the exact product codes and tested figures on record for their lift plans and audits. If your reaction force falls between two listed sizes or you’re working with a crane model not covered here, our custom size outrigger pads service can cover it — contact our team directly and we’ll confirm the right Saferig pad before you mobilize.
