Good rubber gym flooring installation starts long before the first tile is laid. A rubber floor is only as good as what it sits on and how it is laid. Most installation problems, such as lifting edges, visible seams and uneven wear, have little to do with the tile and a lot to do with the slab beneath it or the conditions on site. This guide covers the practical points that matter in Saudi Arabian projects, from subfloor preparation through to day-to-day care.

Always follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions for your specific product. What follows is general good practice that sits alongside them.
Interlocking tiles follow the surface they sit on, so a poor slab shows through. Before ordering, check three things. The slab should be reasonably flat, with no high spots or deep hollows. It should be clean, free of dust, cement residue and paint spills. And it should be fully cured and dry. A slab that is still releasing moisture can cause problems under any non-breathable floor covering.
Dust is a fact of life across Saudi Arabia, and construction dust is worse. Sweep and vacuum the slab thoroughly immediately before laying. Fine dust trapped under tiles can reduce grip between the tile and the slab and creates a gritty feel underfoot.
Rubber responds to temperature. Store cartons in the room where they will be laid, ideally with the air conditioning running at its normal setting, for a period before installation. Laying tiles that have just come out of a hot container or a hot yard is a common source of later gaps. Check your manufacturer’s guidance for the exact acclimatisation time.
Measure the room and set out a dry layout before locking anything together. The aim is to avoid thin cut pieces along visible edges. Where tiles meet a wall, leave the perimeter gap recommended by the manufacturer so the floor has room to move with temperature changes. For tiles with a puzzle-edge profile, such as the 100x100cm Troter Genius, Marbled Troter and MUSA range, the interlocking edge handles most alignment. Where a clean finish is needed, straight-cut sides are available on request.
In heavy-lifting zones, lay the underlay, for example SonicBase, before the surface tile, keeping joints in the underlay offset from joints in the surface layer. This is what gives the system its acoustic and impact benefit. Our gym flooring thickness guide explains which zones need it.
Some systems lay loose and interlocked, while others call for adhesive or double-sided tape in specific zones. This depends on the product, the thickness and the use. Confirm this with the supplier for each zone rather than assuming.
Rubber is low-maintenance, but not no-maintenance. In daily use, dry-mop or vacuum to remove dust and grit, because grit acts like sandpaper under foot traffic. For routine cleaning, use a neutral, pH-balanced cleaner diluted according to the label, and avoid solvents and harsh chemicals that can dull or damage the surface. Wipe up spills promptly, rinse so no residue remains, and allow the floor to dry before use. Keep heavy equipment on its intended zone and use protective pads under racks and machine feet where recommended.
If the slab is badly uneven, if the building sits over occupied space, or if the project involves a drop zone, get specification advice before ordering. Fixing these issues after the floor is down costs much more than planning for them.

Yes. The slab should be flat, clean, dry and cured. Dust and moisture are the two most common causes of installation problems.
Dry-mop or vacuum daily, and use a neutral pH cleaner diluted per the label for routine washing. Avoid solvents and harsh chemicals.
Rubber expands and contracts with temperature. A perimeter gap, sized per the manufacturer’s instructions, lets the floor move without buckling.
