Why Source Seals and Rings from Diode
The right seal depends on the fluid, temperature, pressure and movement. We help you match all four. Key benefits include:
- Wide Material Choice: Rubber, polyurethane and PTFE options to suit oils, water, steam, chemicals and gases.
- Standard and Non-Standard Sizes: Common sizes from stock, plus machined seals for obsolete or odd-sized equipment.
- Fast Replacement: Machined seals help get older equipment running again without waiting for OEM parts.
- Engineering Plastics In-House: Guide rings, back-up rings and wear bands in PTFE, POM and nylon from our own material range.
For PTFE gland packing, envelope gaskets and tapes, see PTFE Tapes, Gland Packings & Seals.
Common Seal and Ring Materials
| Material | Primary Properties | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| NBR (Nitrile) | Good oil and fuel resistance, cost-effective | Hydraulic seals, general industrial O-rings |
| Viton (FKM) | High temperature and chemical resistance | Oil and gas, process plant seals |
| EPDM | Excellent water, steam, and weathering resistance | Water treatment, outdoor applications |
| Silicone | Wide temperature range, food-grade options | Food and beverage, HVAC |
| PTFE | Chemical inert, low friction | Back-up rings, chemical process seals |
Where Our Seals and Rings Are Used
Seals and rings are used across oil and gas, water, manufacturing and heavy equipment, including:
- Hydraulic cylinders on cranes, excavators and presses
- Pumps, valves and compressors
- Gearboxes and rotating shafts (oil seals)
- Pneumatic actuators and cylinders
- Water treatment and desalination equipment
- Food, chemical and process plant
Seal Material Selection Guide
| Material | Good For | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| NBR (nitrile) | Mineral oils, hydraulic oil, fuels, water | Ozone and weather exposure, brake fluid |
| FKM (fluoroelastomer) | High temperature, fuels, many chemicals | Hot water / steam, some ketones |
| EPDM | Water, steam, weather, many mild chemicals | Mineral oils and fuels |
| PU (polyurethane) | High-wear hydraulic rod and piston seals, wipers | Hot water and steam (use hydrolysis-resistant grades) |
| PTFE (virgin / filled) | Aggressive chemicals, high temperature, low friction | Applications needing rubber-like elasticity on its own |
Seal and Ring Types We Supply
- O-rings: static and light dynamic sealing in standard metric and inch sizes
- Rotary shaft (oil) seals: for gearboxes, pumps and motors
- Hydraulic rod and piston seals: in PU, NBR and PTFE-based designs
- Wipers / scrapers: keep dirt out of hydraulic cylinders
- Back-up rings: in PTFE or nylon, to stop O-ring extrusion at high pressure
- Guide rings and wear bands: in filled PTFE, POM or fabric-reinforced materials
What to Send for a Quotation
The seal type, dimensions (or the old seal / drawing), the fluid, operating temperature and pressure, and the equipment it fits.
Values shown are typical industry figures for guidance. Exact dimensions, grades and tolerances are confirmed on your quotation.
Our Al Khobar team will confirm the material, availability and lead time for delivery anywhere in Saudi Arabia and the GCC.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Which O-ring material should I choose?
A. NBR suits most oils and hydraulic fluids, EPDM suits water and steam, FKM suits high temperatures and fuels, and PTFE suits aggressive chemicals. Tell us the fluid and temperature and we will recommend a material.
Q2. Can you make a seal for old or obsolete equipment?
A. Yes. Send us the old seal or its dimensions and we can machine a replacement seal or ring to size.
Q3. What is a back-up ring for?
A. A back-up ring sits beside an O-ring and stops it being squeezed into the gap under high pressure, which extends seal life.
Q4. Do you supply hydraulic cylinder seal kits?
A. Yes. We supply rod seals, piston seals, wipers, guide rings and O-rings for hydraulic cylinders, either as standard sizes or matched to your cylinder.
Q5. Are PTFE seals better than rubber seals?
A. PTFE handles more chemicals and higher temperatures with lower friction, but it is not elastic like rubber. Many PTFE seals use a rubber O-ring behind them to provide the sealing force.
