Key Benefits of NBR (Nitrile Rubber)
NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) is a synthetic rubber known for its resistance to oils, fuels, and hydraulic fluids. Key benefits include:
- Excellent Oil And Fuel Resistance: Performs reliably in contact with petroleum-based oils, fuels, and hydraulic fluids.
- Good Abrasion Resistance: Withstands wear in dynamic sealing and matting applications.
- Wide Temperature Range: Maintains flexibility and sealing performance across varying operating temperatures.
- Cost-Effective: A practical choice for general oil-resistant sealing needs.
NBR is a common choice where chemical/oil exposure and cost-effectiveness both matter.
Common Applications of NBR (Nitrile Rubber)
- Oil and fuel-resistant gaskets and seals
- Hydraulic and pneumatic seals
- O-rings and custom-cut sealing components
- Industrial matting and flooring
- General oil-resistant rubber sheeting

NBR Rubber Sheets: Properties and Selection
NBR (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber, also called nitrile or Buna-N) is the standard choice where rubber must resist oils, fuels and greases. That makes NBR rubber sheets the default gasket and seal material across oil and gas, refineries, workshops, hydraulics and automotive maintenance in Saudi Arabia.
- Oil and fuel resistance: NBR holds its shape and strength in contact with mineral oils, diesel, hydraulic fluids and many greases, where natural rubber and EPDM swell.
- Temperature range: general-purpose NBR typically works from about -30°C to +100°C; check the datasheet for the grade you order.
- Hardness: commonly supplied around Shore A 60 to 70, with other hardness grades on request.
- Good abrasion and tear resistance for gaskets, washers, pads and linings.
When Not to Use NBR
NBR has limited resistance to ozone, weathering and direct sunlight, so for outdoor exposure EPDM or neoprene is often the better choice. For steam and hot water, EPDM is usually preferred. Compare the options in our guide to NBR vs EPDM vs neoprene vs silicone rubber sheet.
Typical Applications
- Flange gaskets and seals for oil, fuel and hydraulic lines
- Pump and valve gaskets in refineries and process plants
- Oil-resistant pads, washers and linings in workshops
- Tank and drum seals for lubricants and fuels
