Key Benefits of PVC Strip Curtains
A strip curtain closes a doorway without stopping traffic — people, trolleys and forklifts pass straight through, and the strips fall back into place behind them. Key benefits include:
- Energy Savings: Holds cold air in chillers and cold rooms and keeps hot outside air and dust out of air-conditioned areas.
- Free Traffic Flow: No door to open or close, so forklifts and trolleys move through without stopping.
- Visibility and Safety: Clear strips let drivers and staff see what is on the other side of the doorway.
- Dust, Insect and Noise Control: Reduces dust, flying insects, draughts and noise passing between areas.
- Low Maintenance: Individual strips unhook and replace in minutes if one is damaged.
For cold-chain sites, polar-grade strips stay flexible at low temperature instead of stiffening and cracking.
PVC Curtain Strip Comparison
| Type | Key Property | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Clear | General purpose, good visibility | Warehouse and workshop doorways |
| Low-Temperature | Stays flexible in cold, resists cracking | Cold storage, freezer rooms |
| Welding-Safe (Tinted) | Blocks UV flash | Welding bay partitions |
| Anti-Static | Dissipates static charge | Static-sensitive or dusty environments |
Where PVC Strip Curtains Are Used
PVC strip curtains are used wherever a doorway needs to stay open for traffic but closed to air, dust or insects, including:
- Cold rooms, blast freezers and dairy chillers
- Refrigerated trucks and reefer containers
- Loading docks and warehouse entrances
- Supermarket back-of-house and food-processing areas
- Factory partitions between clean and dusty zones
- Car washes and vehicle workshops
- Welding bays (coloured welding-screen strips)
Choosing the Right Strip Type
| Strip Type | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard clear (plain) | General doorways, warehouses, factory partitions | Most economical option for ambient temperatures |
| Double-ribbed | High-traffic forklift doorways | Raised ribs take the scuffing from vehicles, so the strip stays clearer for longer |
| Polar / low-temperature | Cold rooms, freezers, refrigerated trucks | Formulated to stay flexible in sub-zero conditions |
| Anti-insect (yellow) | Food areas, kitchens, warehouses near open ground | Yellow tint is less attractive to many flying insects |
| Welding screen (red / green) | Welding bays and workshops | Filters welding glare for people working nearby |
Choosing Strip Width and Overlap
- 200 mm × 2 mm strips: pedestrian and small doorways up to about 2.5 m high
- 300 mm × 3 mm strips: standard warehouse and cold-room doors, trolley and pallet-truck traffic
- 400 mm × 4 mm strips: large dock and forklift doors, higher wind or pressure differences
- Overlap: about 50% overlap for cold stores and freezers; less overlap is acceptable for dust and insect control
Values shown are typical industry figures for guidance. Exact dimensions, grades and tolerances are confirmed on your quotation.
Send us the door size (width × height), the environment (chilled, frozen, dusty, outdoor) and the traffic type (people, trolleys or forklifts), and our Al Khobar team will recommend the strip type and overlap and quote supply or supply-and-install anywhere in Saudi Arabia and the GCC.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What thickness of PVC strip do I need?
A. Small pedestrian doors usually use 200 × 2 mm strips, standard warehouse and cold-room doors use 300 × 3 mm, and large forklift doors use 400 × 4 mm. Send us the door size and traffic type and we will recommend a size.
Q2. Do PVC strips work in freezers?
A. Yes, if you use a polar (low-temperature) grade. Standard PVC can stiffen and crack in sub-zero rooms, while polar strips are formulated to stay flexible.
Q3. What is a double-ribbed PVC strip?
A. It is a strip with raised ribs along its length. The ribs take most of the scuffing from forklifts and trolleys, so the flat area of the strip stays clearer for longer.
Q4. Can you supply the hanging rail and install the curtain?
A. Yes. We supply strips, rolls and the galvanised or stainless steel mounting rail with clamps, and can arrange supply-and-install for complete doorways.
Q5. How do I replace a damaged strip?
A. With hook-on hardware, a single strip unhooks from the rail and a new one clips in place, with no need to remove the whole curtain.
